About Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a young and fastly growing department at IIT Tirupati. It offers academic/research programmes B.Tech, M. Tech, M.S (Research) and PhD. The CSE Department is currently headed by Dr Venkata Ramana Badarla, Associate Professor, IIT Tirupati. It has 9 full-time faculty members and 6 guest/visiting faculty members from the Industry and IIT Madras. It has about 200 B.Tech, 28 M.Tech, 8 M.S and 12 PhD students. Till now, 95 B.Tech and 23 M.Tech students have successfully graduated from CSE Department.

The programmes offered by the department follow a rigorous and diversified course curriculum with emphasis on fundamentals, project-driven and industry relevant courses. The M.Tech programme in CSE focuses on Data Science and Systems. The faculty members are actively engaged in research areas including algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer networks, software engineering, computer organisation and architecture, parallel computing, theoretical computer science and mathematical modeling. Faculty members also engage in interesting projects at the congruence of academic-industry research problems, and currently has collaborations with Toshiba R&D, Facebook, Bosch R&D, Accenture Labs. The Data Science & Systems and Cybersecurity are key areas in which the department plans to grow and develop expertise and human resources to meet the needs of the Nation.

About IIT Tirupati

The Indian Institute of Technology at Tirupati, along with the other five 3rd generation IITs, was announced by the Government of India in 2014. The Institute started its academic programmes in 2015 by admitting 106 students in the B. Tech programmes in four branches of Engineering, namely, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. In 2018, the B.Tech programme in Chemical Engineering was started and intake in the B.Tech programme was increased to 180 students. In order to get the research programmes commenced in the Institute, MS (by research) and PhD programmes were started in all the existing branches of Engineering, and PhD in Mathematics, Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences in 2017.

The M.Tech programmes in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering were started in 2018. The M. Tech programmes in three streams of Civil Engineering and MSc (Mathematics & Statistics) have been started in 2019. The Institute has witnessed immense growth in terms of faculty recruitment, the start of new academic programmes, research initiatives and infrastructure development. Within a short period of time, IIT Tirupati has been able to build world-class infrastructure and acquire the latest equipment for carrying out advanced research. IIT Tirupati Transit Campus project has been awarded the GRIHA Council Award for exemplary demonstration of Sustainable Building Material/Technologies and it is the First Prize winner of HUDCO Design Awards 2018 under the category of Green Buildings. The Ministry of Human Resource Development also recognized the Transit Campus of the Institute as a Swachcha Campus in the year 2019. Alongside academics, social service is also given due importance as the students are encouraged to develop applications for making lives better. There are various clubs at the Institute that cater to the extracurricular interests of the students. The students, even in the nascent stage of the Institute, actively participated in the Inter IIT Technical, Cultural and Sports Meets. The Institute foresees a further accelerated growth with the enthusiasm and the involvement exhibited by the students, the faculty and the management.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is nurturing Tirupati as knowledge hub of the State. The new IISER Tirupati permanent campus is to come up about 3 Kms from IIT Tirupati campus. Many established Institutions such as Sri Venkateswara University, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Sanskrit University etc are located in Tirupati. An upcoming integrated business city "Sri City" nearby and the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SHAR) in Sriharikota being close by, gives it a technical edge. Tirupati town being one of an important cities in Andhra Pradesh with its Airport and proximity to Chennai and Benguluru gives it an excellent connectivity.
