ASEAN PhD Fellowship Programme

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IITT) is a participating institute in the ASEAN PhD Fellowship Programme. The Government of India - through this programme, offers fully funded fellowships exclusively for ASEAN aspirants to pursue PhD at an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of their choice. We welcome aspirants from ASEAN countries to apply to IIT Tirupati for PhD fellowships.

IIT Tirupati is the first among the 3G IITs, announced in 2014, to have its foundation stone laid in March 2015. The Institute started in 2015 by admitting 106 students in the B. Tech programmes in four branches of Engineering, namely, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In 2018, the B.Tech programme in Chemical Engineering was started and intake in the B.Tech programme was increased to 180 students. Research programmes, MS (by research) and PhD programmes were started in 2017. The M.Tech programmes in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering were started in 2018. The M.Tech programme in three streams of Civil & Environmental Engineering and M.Sc. (Mathematics & Statistics) have been started in 2019. The curriculum has emphasis on theoretical knowledge and practice oriented laboratories. Courses are planned to nurture innovation, creativity, quality, teamwork, communication skills, ethics and societal interaction.

Eligibility criteria for Ph.D. admission


Ph.D. in Engineering
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
  • Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit are eligible for the relevant Engineering discipline. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
  • Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
Eligibility: Ph.D. in Sciences
  • Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record. Master’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology are also eligible. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
  • Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. in Sciences provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
Eligibility: Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Master's degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record or equivalent in the relevant area. Students having a valid GRE/IELTS/TOEFL score or equivalent will be preferred.
Financial aid

The Full-time foreign PhD Research Scholars are eligible for Financial Assistantship of INR 25000* per month for first two years and INR 28000* per month for next three years of registration. All such Research Scholars have to put in 8 hours per week towards work assigned by the Institute.
